Fairbanks “Morse Z” Engine and Pump Fog Horn

Engine

This Fairbanks “Morse Z” Engine was used by weir fishermen to hall up the brush in the weirs every spring.  The brush was laid down each fall so that the winter storms wouldn’t destroy them.

This horn was used on the Grand Banks in small fishing boats. When the fog was very thick a man was employed to the bow of the boat to sound the fog horn. In this way each boat and the mother ship would keep track of each other.
